How Government Agencies, Non-Profit Organizations and Others Can Add Policy Research Questions onto Ongoing Field Research Surveys of the California PublicOne of the unique services that Field Research Corporation offers is the ability for state agencies, non-profit organizations and others to add individual policy-related questions onto its ongoing, large-scale statewide surveys of the California voting public. Field typically conducts 4-6 such surveys each year. By adding questions onto these surveys, organizations interested in policy research can obtain valuable statewide opinion research results for a fraction of what it would cost to conduct a similar ad hoc survey, without compromising survey quality or the projectability of the findings. A typical Field statewide survey is conducted among a random probability sampling of 1,000 California registered voters. Interviewing is conducted by telephone in English and Spanish by professionally trained interviewers. Up to six attempts are made at each listing called during the data collections period. Results from a statewide sample of 1,000 registered voters would have a sampling error of +/- 3.2 percentage points at the 95% confidence level. The cost of adding questions onto each survey is $2,150 per question. Prior to the start of interviewing, Field professionals work with policy research clients to draft and refine the wording of their sponsored questions to ensure that they can be easily understood by and administered to a statewide sample of voters, and that they are asked in an unbiased manner. This assistance is included in our basic per question cost. Each survey also includes a long battery of standard demographic questions (age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, household income, tenure, religion, party registration, political ideology, region of state, etc.) that are not counted as billable questions. The inclusion of these questions enables the survey results to be examined both statewide and across an array of demographic, regional and political subgroups of the state's voting population. Results become available about one week after interviewing is completed in the form of detailed statistical tabulations. Upon request, an ASCII file of a raw data from which these tabulations are based can also be provided. Our basic per-question fee does not include the costs of any written analysis or survey report, although this can easily be provided for an additional fee.
